Silver Dollar Legacy

Many parents, mine included, have saved the special coins and currencies from our nation’s past – such as the silver dollar – for their children.  They believe that one day coin values will reach a climax and those children will understand how valuable it is to be one of only hundreds of people to still have an official coin or bill.  Parents often find that this is one of the best way to preserve their own legacy to posterity, and will even consider buying collector’s edition coins, such as silver eagles, to save for their young children.  I remember fondly that my mother has collected all of the states quarters currently published, and has kept copies of those minted from each of the two official United States mints.  But it wasn’t just the quarters that she kept.  She had three of everything, two dollar bills, half dollars, golden dollars from the early 2000s, and so many more coins that I didn’t even recognize.  She would take them out from time to time and show them to us, teaching us what each coin was worth, and letting us wonder what they would be worth in the future.  My mother also collected foreign currencies, and this was her true passion.  She did not collect them for us, but rather for herself, as her own personal passion.  When we went on trips overseas, she would pick up coins and bills from every country, and we could count on her to show us the vivid bills and coins as soon as we returned home.
