When my sister got laid off and needed to make money to support her family, she started making handcrafted rings and selling them on eBay. At first she had no trouble keeping up with the orders. She would show a picture of the rings on her store and once it sold take it off until she had a chance to make another one. She had gotten to the point where she had about four of each ring and things started to pick up.
She had to start making the rings every day to replenish her stock. She added in s few necklaces and bracelets too. When I would go to visit her, she stayed busy making her art wear. After a couple of months of hard work, she was actually making an income they could get by on. It was still tight, but they could manage. Within six months, she was making the same amount of money she had at her previous job. I knew she was talented, but it did surprise me that her stuff sold so well.
She has decided to start going to trade shows and attend different events. She will set up a table or booth at things like renaissance faires and any other event that would be a good showcase for artisan jewelry. She has even gotten her older kids involved in it all. They will spend part of the summer traveling to different shows and selling her wares. It sounds like great fun; I am jealous.
